President Obama announces the U.S.-Africa Leaders Summit

During a visit to Cape Town in South Africa last year, President Obama announced plans for a monumental feat in U.S.-Africa relations: The first U.S.-Africa Leaders’ Summit. Scheduled for August 5-6th, the summit is a spoke in the White House’s plans to increase U.S.-Africa relations.

In June 2012, he launched The New Strategy Towards sub-saharan Africa, to “provide a proactive and forward looking vision grounded in partnership” as well as Strengthen Democratic Institutions, Spur Economic Growth, Trade, and Investment, Advance Peace and Security, and Promote Opportunity and Development.

The summit will feature a number of surrounding events in the Washington, DC area as well.
